During 2013 and 2014, friends and art lovers Sally Ball and Belinda Gray were both diagnosed with breast cancer. In defiance of the disease, they decided to focus their passion for art into raising money to help fund research into breast cancer. In 2014, Art for Cure became an idea for a one-off fundraising event, but has already turned in to something much bigger.

Almost three years on and the art and sculpture event has now been held twice and raised a staggering £275,000 in total.

Belinda’s house was the venue for the first Art For Cure event in 2014, which raised an unexpected £100,000 for Breast Cancer Now in just 3 days!

Art For Cure 2016

Following on from this success, in 2016 the second event, held in the stunning house and gardens of the beautiful Glemham Hall in Suffolk, gathered support from over 40 celebrities including Ed Sheeran, Andy Murray and Dame Judi Dench and over 8000 people attended the fundraising exhibition, with art works from over 75 East Anglian and nationally acclaimed artists.

Thanks to the support of these artists, together with sponsors and a fantastic army of volunteers, over 600 pieces of art work were sold, raising an astounding £175,000 at Glemham Hall. Of this, £100,000 was donated directly to Breast Cancer Now to specifically help research into secondary breast cancer projects.

Belinda says:

“We were thrilled with the success of the second Art for Cure exhibition in 2016 and it is clear the sale of art and sculpture is an excellent way of raising money for charity.

“We know that many of the people who bought from us made the purchase because their lives had been touched by breast cancer in some way.

“We remain committed to raising awareness and funds to contribute to the care and cure of breast cancer, and greatly look forward to the next steps in our fundraising journey and continuing to support Breast Cancer Now.”

The third Art for Cure is due to take place in May 2018, with interim fundraising art events to be announced shortly.
