What our volunteers say

""

Hannah (pictured above, far right) volunteered for us at the London Marathon 2017 as part of the finish line team. Here's what she said about the day:

“I had an amazing day volunteering at the London Marathon, there were so many inspiring and wonderful people! As a Breast Cancer survivor myself, it was heart-warming to see so much money being raised for an incredible charity, by people who cared so much. Laughter and tears all the way. I'd do it again tomorrow! (well, maybe the day after...)

“The team were amazing, really organised and fun. We had a great day at the finish line 'scooping up' (as one runner put it) all those incredible people who ran for this charity, and helping them celebrate their achievement, and then escorting them to our after party space, to meet their family and get looked after with massage and a hot meal. Their stories were amazing to hear, I spoke to loads of runners about their motivation behind their race, and some of the stories moved me to tears.

“It was a fantastic event to be part of. I met some absolutely amazing and inspiring people who have raised so much money by doing something incredible. I could never run a marathon, I can however help out by giving my time to support those who can!”

Frequently asked questions

The most common task we need volunteers for is cheering at our cheer points. This involves you being on the side of the course or track and making as much noise as you can to support our runners/riders as the come past.

As an event volunteer it is hard to get across to you just how vital you are to the whole event. We could tell you how important it is to the runners and cyclists it is to have your support, how much it lifts them up and gives them that last burst of energy, but why not hear it straight from them:

"The support the Breast Cancer now team gave during the epic London Marathon was superb from the very start to the last mile they were cheering and shouting. Without the support of these guys it would have been a real struggle, it turned out to be one of the best days of my life. Thank you Breast Cancer Now for the support on the day and your continued work towards finding a cure for this life taking disease"
