Debenhams has supported Breast Cancer Now since 2001, raising an incredible £4.7 million. As well as selling fantastic product ranges in support of our research for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, their staff have made an enormous impact by fundraising in stores around the country.

This year for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they need you to join them to get #PowerfulPink! This campaign aims to unite their customers, colleagues and their Designers at Debenhams to raise awareness of breast cancer and celebrate the power of research.

Powerful stories

Connie Johncock, Henry Holland, Lauren Bolus

To help launch the campaign, two of our incredible supporters were treated to an exclusive makeover by renowned Designer at Debenhams, Henry Holland. Connie and Lauren, who’ve both had their lives turned upside down by breast cancer, visited the flagship Oxford Street Store where Henry helped them choose new looks to complement their unique senses of style and inspirational outlook on life.

When she was just three years old, 21 year old Lauren lost her mother to breast cancer, and has since been cared for by her father and ‘grum’ – her grandma, who stepped in to help fill the role left by her mum.

Lauren’s mum carried a fault in her genes which made her much more likely to get breast cancer, and earlier this year, Lauren decided to get tested to see if she carried the same gene fault. The results were positive, and Lauren made the brave but difficult decision to have a preventative mastectomy.

Connie, 25, received the news she had breast cancer on New Year’s Eve in 2012. Just two months later, doctors told her the cancer had spread and was now incurable. This devastating diagnosis initially left Connie numb, and ongoing treatment to keep the cancer at bay has meant she’s had to put some areas of her life, such as her nursing degree, on hold. Connie’s also battled with body image following treatment. But despite all she’s been through, her bubbly personality continues to shine through and Connie refuses to let cancer define her: “It’s part of my life but it isn’t the most important part.”

Show your #PowerfulPink

It’s because of women like Connie, Lauren and Lauren’s mum that our partnership with Debenhams is so important. Together, we’re determined to stop breast cancer taking the lives of the women we love – whether that’s funding pioneering research to stop breast cancer spreading, discovering who’s most at risk of breast cancer and how we can help them avoid the disease, or campaigning for access to the best treatments for every woman. That’s why we’re proud to be #PowerfulPink.

This October, you can join Debenhams to stand against breast cancer. They’ve designed a temporary heart tattoo available in store, so why not grab yours and snap of you showing your support with the hashtag #PowerfulPink? Here at Breast Cancer Now head office, we road-tested the tattoos ourselves!

As always, October is the month to add a new piece to your wardrobe from Debenhams’ stylish new range in support of Breast Cancer Now. This year’s selection includes some of the biggest names in fashion.
