On Saturday 14 November, 200 £1000 Challengers and their guests attended the unveiling of our 6th Challengers’ Wall at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in South Kensington, London.
The £1000 Challenge is one of our longest running and most loved campaigns. Back in 1990, we asked 15,000 people to each raise £1000 to fund the Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre at the ICR.
Thanks to their fantastic fundraising, they raised an incredible £15 million and we were able to open the doors to the research centre nine years later.
Since then, thousands more have signed up to take the £1000 Challenge in a bid to help us beat breast cancer.
Our Challengers are all extraordinary people who do brilliant things to raise £1,000 for Breast Cancer Now so that’s why we put their names up on a special wall at the ICR to thank them for all their work. 442 names appear on our 6th wall and the group has raised an amazing £500,000 to support breast cancer research.
The unveiling also allowed the hard-working fundraisers to meet of some of the researchers who are conducting our life-saving breast cancer research. All of the Challengers were given their own lab coats and invited to take part in our mini science expo, including the all-important tea and cake, plus the chance to carry out some experiments of their own using DNA!
It was an extremely inspiring and emotional day, and we would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to raise money to support our work.
We hope those who were able to make it enjoyed the celebration and we honestly cannot thank all of our £1000 Challengers enough for their dedication to fantastic fundraising.
