Rita Ora has commissioned the artist, Endless, to create a one-of-a-kind portrait, which will be sold privately this year to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.
Breast cancer is a cause close to Rita’s heart; the superstar singer and actress commissioned the artwork to honour her mother, Vera Ora, who was diagnosed with breast cancer when Rita was just 15. She was successfully treated and was - and continues to be - Rita’s main source of support.
Rita is a longstanding fan of Endless’ work, having spotted his art across London and on Instagram some years ago. Endless is known internationally for his edgy and provocative artwork, which has garnered a string of high-profile fans including supermodels Kate Moss and Winnie Harlow, footballer Daniel Sturridge as well as Brooklyn Beckham. He is recognised to be the protégé of the artistic enfants terribles, Gilbert & George.
For this commission, Endless presents Rita in a close-up portrait style, with her striking gaze commanding the attention of spectators. The bold colour palette, use of gold leaf and typography and heavy brushstrokes lend it an up-to-date, edgy feel, emulating the singer’s music and avant-garde style. It is finished with glossy resin coat, adding another element of luxury. The artwork is part of Endless’ Icon Worship series, a set of portraits featuring high-profile people who seek an honest artistic representation of how society perceives them.
Endless met with Rita recently to show her the finished piece and allow her to sign it. The artwork has an estimated value of £20,000 and the full sale price will be donated to Breast Cancer Now.
Rita Ora said:
“I’ve always wanted to do something unusual to raise money for a breast cancer charity, to honour my mum and contribute to funding vital research into this terrible disease. Art has always been a passion of mine and something which I love to appreciate in my spare time, so the idea of using art to raise money for a cause and charity that is close to my heart came very naturally.
“I wanted Endless to do the work as I am a massive fan of his. The piece he’s created is just beautiful. I can definitely see us collaborating in some shape or form in the near future.”
“Rita is a powerful, hard-working yet incredibly compassionate woman, traits I am certain have been instilled by her mother. It was cool of her to approach me for this commission as I know the importance and sentiment it carried. She genuinely wants to make the world a better place, and I am all for that.”
Baroness Delyth Morgan, Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Now, said:
“This is such an exciting project and we are delighted to be the chosen beneficiary of the private sale of this unique piece. Despite the incredible progress research has made, breast cancer remains the most common cancer in the UK, with 50,000 women diagnosed every year. With the support of Rita Ora and Endless on this wonderful collaboration, Breast Cancer Now will be able to continue funding research that will help us stop women dying of breast cancer”.
