Iconic UK landmarks turn pink for Breast Cancer Campaign

Last night (Wednesday 22 October), the UK lit up in pink as iconic landmarks supported Breast Cancer Campaign’s wear it pink.

The Eden Project, St Michael’s Mount, Chatsworth House and the Oxo Tower joined a host of famous and beautiful landmarks across the UK to ‘Look Good, Do Good’, in a bid to remind the nation to support Breast Cancer Campaign’s fashionable fundraiser, wear it pink day, which takes place tomorrow, Friday 24 October.

A total of 18 landmarks in 9 major towns and cities including London, Belfast, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Bath, Falkirk, St Austell and Marazion took part in the initiative.

Other landmarks that took part across the UK included the National Theatre, Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall, London Marriott County Hall, Waterloo Bridge, Hungerford Bridge, The Marble Arch Fountain and the Granary Square Fountain, three Thames Clippers, Belfast Castle, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the Pulteney Bridge in Bath, the Old Joe Clocktower at the University of Birmingham, the First Direct Arena in Leeds and the Falkirk Wheel in central Scotland.

Danielle Atkinson, Head of Public Fundraising at Breast Cancer Campaign, said:
 

“We’re thrilled that some of the nation’s most beautiful and well-known landmarks are joining us to ‘Look Good, Do Good’ ahead of wear it pink day. By turning pink in support of Breast Cancer Campaign all of these iconic landmarks are helping us to remind the nation of the importance of funding breast cancer research.

“Breast cancer is still the most common cancer in the UK and sadly 12,000 women still die each year. We hope that people across the country will take part in wear it pink this year. It’s not too late to find something pink to wear on Friday 24th October - you too can ‘Look Good, Do Good’ this October and help Breast Cancer Campaign fund vital, life-saving breast cancer research.”

wear it pink, organised by leading research charity Breast Cancer Campaign, raises over £2 million every year in October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by asking everyone to wear something pink and make a donation. The money raised helps fund life-saving research into breast cancer at institutions across the UK.
