Sing Stars choir from Whitehaven are singing their hearts out for Breast Cancer Now.
Whitehaven's Sing Stars choir launched their CD with The Big Pink Night on Saturday 21 May 2016 and have raised nearly £5,000 for breast cancer research. The group recently visited the Breast Cancer Now Scotland office for a cheque presentation and sang the Edinburgh team a few songs.
Beth McGarry from Sing Stars said:
“I really enjoyed the Big Pink event, raising vital funds for Breast Cancer Now. This is a cause so close to my heart. Thanks to incredible research breakthroughs, more women are surviving breast cancer than ever before, but more than 30 women still die from the disease every day in the UK.
“I want everybody in Whitehaven to join me and help fundraise for Breast Cancer Now’s vital research to stop women dying of breast cancer in the future – and it starts right now, with each of us!”
Jacqui Quinn from Sing Stars said:
“I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in December 2014. I wanted to raise money to fund research into breast cancer. I lost my mother to it 30 years ago, and research into the disease will help more people survive.
“Beth embraced the idea of Sing Stars recording songs for charity. She suggested the launch night and we joined forces to bring it to life. The night was a fantastic success and a joy to be a part of. I am overwhelmed with the amount of money we raised, thanks to the generosity and support of everyone involved.”
Emily Buchanan, Community Fundraising Executive Officer at Breast Cancer Now, said:
“Breast cancer is a heart-breaking disease, and when we hear that yet another life has been lost, it feels like we’re powerless against it. But there is something we can do – we are the generation that can change the future for good.
“We know that there are thousands of people out there who have considered fundraising for charity or who are already out there doing it like Beth and Jacqui – so we want to encourage them to make 2016 the year they all come together to achieve even more.
“With every cake we bake and every bucket we shake, we’re powering research that’s finding new ways to prevent, detect and treat breast cancer until the day when we stop it, once and for all. And with you by our side we can make it happen faster. We think now is the time to get started!”
