Health Secretary Matt Hancock and his team are currently deciding how to spend up to £20.5bn extra a year that has been given to the NHS. Help us reach him directly by sharing your story with him on social media.

Our #55000Reasons campaign is reaching out to Health Secretary Matt Hancock to share the real effect breast cancer is having on the 55,000 people who get breast cancer each year.

By using our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts we can now directly reach the people in charge of making the change that we want to see. Please help us by sharing your reason for wanting to see more investment in breast cancer with the Health Secretary directly.

We know @MattHancock is really into technology – he was the first MP to get their own app – so we think he’ll be listening!

Don’t worry if you’re not on social media, you can still take part in the campaign by visiting our resources page.

How to take part

We think the most powerful way to reach Matt Hancock is through video. It’s hard to ignore someone telling their real life experiences directly to you. However, if you feel more comfortable sharing a selfie and writing your reason down instead, then that will work really well too.

If you want to record a video

1. Think about the impact breast cancer has had on your life and why you’d like to see more investment for breast cancer

2. Using a mobile phone go to your camera app and set the camera to video – you can either record a selfie video or ask a friend to hold the phone

3. If your reason for wanting more breast cancer investment includes another person – you might want to hold a picture of that person (make sure you have their permission first!)

4. Start your video “I want to see more investment in breast cancer because….

5. Explain the impact breast cancer has had on you and your family, and your hopes for the future

6. There’s no time limit but try to be as concise as you can.

7. Share your video!

The Twitter app makes it easy to share video, simply click on the video icon and you’ll be able to upload your video. Don’t forget to include @MattHancock and the hashtag #55000Reasons in your tweet. You could use the sample tweet:

Dear @MattHancock here’s my reason for wanting to see investment in breast cancer in the NHS Long Term Plan #55000reasons

Matt Hancock has his own Facebook page: if you’re on Facebook you can post directly onto it. Write your message and click on the photo/video button to upload your video. Don’t forget the hashtag #55000Reasons.

If you want to take a selfie

1. Think about the impact breast cancer has had on your life and why you’d like to see more investment for breast cancer

2. Copy our photoshoot and hold a photo that represents the reason breast cancer is important to you. If your photo is of another person make sure you have their permission first!

3. Using a mobile phone go to your camera app and take a selfie of you and the photo

4. Share your selfie!

The Twitter app makes it easy to share a photo, but you will have a limited number of characters. Think about how you can explain why breast cancer services are so important to you as simply as you can. Don’t forget to include @MattHancock and the hashtag #55000Reasons in your tweet.

Matt Hancock has his own Facebook page: if you’re on Facebook you can post directly onto it. Write your message explaining your photo reason and click on the “photo/video button” to upload your selfie. Don’t forget the hashtag #55000Reasons.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with! We’ll be looking out for your Tweets and Facebook posts.
