In Breast Cancer Now’s 2019 UK survey of people living with incurable secondary (metastatic) breast cancer, we asked 2,000 people about their experiences.
Nearly one in four (24%) respondents who had previously been treated for breast cancer had to visit their GP three or more times with symptoms before being diagnosed with the return and spread of the disease.
That’s why we are helping patients and healthcare professionals know the signs and symptoms of secondary breast cancer.
A prompt diagnosis means that people can begin treatment and access supportive care as quickly as possible. Timely access to treatment and care can relieve symptoms and have a dramatic impact on quality of life.
