Comedian Alistair Barrie takes No More Stage 3, his stand-up show about his wife’s breast cancer, to this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. As well as encouraging audience members to make a donation at the end of the show, Alistair is also donating some of the proceeds to Breast Cancer Now.
Earlier in 2015, Alistair’s wife Emily was diagnosed with breast cancer which gave him some perspective on what really constitutes bad news. His No More Stage 3 show covers the downs and occasional ups of watching your partner go through treatment for a life-threatening disease, from shared hair loss to chemo farts, shopping for breasts and the thorny subject of statutory sick pay.
Alistair says: “10% of all proceeds are going to Breast Cancer Now and all support is very welcome.”
UK comedy guide Chortle says about Alistair’s show: “No More Stage 3 will surely be a boon to anyone else who’s been through the same thing, as several of those thanking Barrie as they popped money in a collection bucket at the end seemed to attest. For everyone else, it’ll give sage advice … and shows that there can still be joy after diagnosis.”
Alistair’s No More Stage 3 show is on at Movement, 69 Cowgate, in Edinburgh at 3.45pm each day until 29 August. The event is free and non-ticketed, but if you’re going along please do take some cash to make a contribution at the end of the show.
