Adele wants to do all she can to raise awareness and help others like her going through breast cancer, in their time of need.

I’m married with 1 teenage son and 2 cats. As well as being a wife and mother, I’m a daughter, sister, auntie, friend and colleague.

I would describe myself as friendly and passionate person! I get very energised by issues and people that mean a lot to me. I’m a good listening ear and try to help where I can.

In early 2022, I found a lumpy area in my breast and was diagnosed with breast cancer

At first, I thought the lumpy area was perimenopause, however, a scan and biopsies revealed that I had lobular breast cancer and needed a mastectomy.

I had 5 months of chemo followed by a mastectomy, reconstruction from my thigh and a full lymph node clearance then 3 weeks of radiotherapy.  I had a few complications post-surgery including a frozen shoulder.  However, the treatment was successful and I’m truly grateful for the fantastic care and expertise delivered by the NHS. Having worked in the NHS for over 20 years myself, in learning and development, I knew I was in good hands whilst being treated.

Taking part in wear it pink felt like doing something to lift the spirits, after what had been a really difficult time

My mum had breast cancer 14 years ago, when I was pregnant with my son, so I was keen for her to take part in wear it pink with me. It was a lovely experience to share together – something good out of something bad!

For me, taking part in wear it pink felt like giving something back to Breast Cancer Now after all the support they had given me.

If I’m honest I didn’t check my breasts regularly enough, because despite the family history, I just didn’t think it would happen at my age.  Now I know so much more about the signs and what to look out for. I want to do all I can help raise awareness and help others like me in their time of need.

Adele and another woman in pink

One piece of advice about hosting a wear it pink is that it doesn’t matter how big or small it is – by taking part you’re making a difference!

Will you join Adele and wear it pink this October?

Every wear it pink event that happens makes a difference, as they’re not just about raising money, they raise awareness too!
