Thinking of taking part with work or sports club?
There are many ways to get involved with Afternoon Tea and raise money for life-changing science and support. Whilst lots of people take part at home, you can definitely get involved at work, with your sports club or community group.
Here’s some ideas to get you thinking:
Bake a difference at work
Holding a bake sale at work is a great way to bring people together, raise money and raise awareness.
Get colleagues involved and ask them to bring a bake along, so it’s not all on you. To inspire them to take part, you could give awards for tastiest bake, best showstopper etc.
Top tip: set up a baking spreadsheet to keep track of who’s baking what, so you don’t end up with 4 banana breads!
My colleague and I decided to take part in Afternoon Tea. Staff made or bought bakes, and we happily shared cake and a cuppa – it didn’t take much persuasion in my office as we all like a piece of cake!
Organise your own club event
Afternoon Tea fits nicely with a lot of sports. Test cricket has a tea break and we often think of strawberries and cream with tennis. So why not lean into this and plan your own tea at the club?
You could arrange a charity tournament followed by an Afternoon Tea, or have a bake sale at the club house or on event day.
We came up with the idea of playing tennis and then having strawberries and cake as a fundraiser. The village tennis club are always delighted to contribute to the charity by letting us use the courts free of charge.
Add fundraising onto your pre-existing plans
Planning a summer social, have a match coming up or club night? Speak to event organisers and see if you can add fundraising to the agenda.
You could set up a stall, sell bakes and pin badges for a suggested donation and play some games. All to raise money for life-changing science and support.
We’ve got lots of materials to help, including invitations, posters and balloons.
If you'd prefer, you can call us on 0333 20 70 300 to order some extras over the phone.
Some friendly competition
There’s lots of pre-made games you can play with your colleagues or group, including sweepstakes, bingo and an Afternoon Tea quiz.
You could also look at organising a raffle, they can be a big crowd pleaser, create a real buzz on the day and boost fundraising.
If your games or raffle raised £30, it could help someone get answers by calling our free helpline. No question is too big or small. And all calls are answered by breast care nurses and trained staff.
We had a lot of cake and bakes, we played guess the sweets in the jar and had a raffle. Pin the cherry to the Bakewell got very competitive, which was hilariously funny
No matter where you take part, get a dream tea-m together
Call on your colleagues or club members, put together a to do list and split out the tasks ✅
People are always keen to lend a helping hand, but sometimes they don’t know what to do. So be clear and share the workload. It will not only help you save time, but with more hands helping, you can relax and enjoy the day!
Top tip: We recommend that one person leads on the admin, e.g. the same person who registers for Afternoon Tea also sets up your JustGiving page. This will help us match everything up, so we can thank you properly.
Can we help?
