Meet Natasha. Her breast cancer can’t be cured, but research gives her hope.
From just £2 per month, your donation could help fund the research that one day saves lives.
Have you seen our TV advert?
In our TV advert, you met Natasha who’s living with secondary breast cancer. We approached Natasha last year after she wrote a blog for us, explaining that even though her breast cancer can’t be cured, the thing that keeps her positive is hope. A hope that one day there could be new drugs and new breakthroughs. At Breast Cancer Now, we’re funding world-class research with the hope that one day, people like Natasha will be able to see their children grow up. But we can’t do it without you.

The number of women surviving breast cancer has doubled in the last 40 years.
This wouldn’t have been possible without research into better treatment and care. It’s also thanks to earlier detection through breast screening, and a focus on targets – like faster diagnosis.
But 1,000 women still die from breast cancer every month in the UK. Someone every 45 minutes. And that’s why we need you. Your support will help make sure that one day, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives, and lives well. Your monthly donation could help fund research into kinder, smarter treatments, and life-changing support for people like Natasha.

‘Being a part of this TV advert has given me a chance to turn a bad experience into a positive one. It’s allowed me to remind people of the urgency of breast cancer, but it’s also been an opportunity to make other younger people with a secondary diagnosis realise they’re not alone.’

Frequently asked questions
Who is Natasha?
Natasha was diagnosed with primary breast cancer at the age of 38, which then spread to other parts of her body, known as secondary breast cancer, by the time she was 43. She allowed us to share her story to help spread awareness of secondary breast cancer, so that we can continue working on helping those with secondary breast cancer and keep our support services running. For Natasha, it is support like this that helps her focus on the here and now, reminding her that life continues, no matter what.
Who are Breast Cancer Now?
We’re Breast Cancer Now, the charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing support.
We’re here for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future.
What research are we doing into secondary breast cancer at the moment?
Our scientists are researching new treatments and studying why breast cancer becomes resistant to existing treatments. For example, Professor Leonie Young at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland is looking at whether a drug called talazoparib could help treat secondary breast cancer in the brain. While Professor Janet Brown at the University of Sheffield wants to understand if combining radium-233 with an immunotherapy drug could work to treat the disease. We’re currently funding lots of research into different areas of breast cancer. Other research projects that aren’t specifically focused on secondary breast cancer, could also lead to new treatments that women with secondary breast cancer could benefit from.
