Complete a survey about virtual appointments in cancer care

Categories: Personal diagnosis | Primary breast cancer

Complete a survey about your experience of virtual appointments as part of cancer treatment to help researchers understand how they can be made better for people diagnosed with breast cancer

What’s the title of the study?

Exploring factors influencing telemedicine acceptance among breast cancer patients in follow – up care: Mixed method approach

What’s the project about?

Telemedicine, or virtual appointments, is where appointments or communication with healthcare professionals are done via online video, phone, email, or text messages, instead of face to face. This is increasingly used in healthcare.

During the COVID-19 pandemic there was an increase in using virtual appointments to manage people who were had chronic conditions like breast cancer.

After the pandemic, managing patients remotely using virtual appointments has decreased, which suggests that people don’t like it as much as face to face appointments.

In this study, the researchers are planning to study people’s experience of virtual appointments and identify factors which can influence whether people accept it. This will help decision and policy makers improve the current virtual appointment system for the people using it.

Who's organising it?

Name of project lead: Vaidehi M Phatak

Job title: PhD researcher

Organisation: University of Huddersfield

Email address: vaidehi.phatak@hud.ac.uk

Phone number: 07851 083 468

Who can take part?

You can take part if you:

  • Are 25 or older
  • Are able to read, write, and understand English
  • Have completed active treatment for primary breast cancer (surgery and chemo) but you can be on preventive treatment
  • Have ever had a virtual appointment in the UK for regular clinical check-up (discussion on recovery, treatment, and signs or symptoms) with an oncology consultant or specialist nurse

Why do you want me to be involved?

Your involvement is important because sharing your experience means that virtual appointments can be designed to be more patient friendly.

This could ultimately reduce load on the NHS and reduce waiting times for people affected by cancer.

What will you ask me to do?

The researchers would like to you complete an anonymous online survey. It should should take 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

In the survey, you'll be asked questions about your experience of virtual follow up appointments after cancer treatments, and how you think they could be approved.

The information sheet and consent form are at the beginning of the survey.

How do I get involved?

Please complete the survey
