Categories: Personal diagnosis | Primary breast cancer | BMI 30+

Take part in a study exploring views on weight-loss jabs among people living with or beyond cancer and living with obesity.

What’s the title of the study?

Share your Insight on Using Weight-Loss Injectables to Lose Weight

What’s the study about?

Obesity is a complex medical condition that is linked to a higher prevalence and mortality rate of cancer. In this study, master's students are exploring how people with a current or past cancer diagnosis feel about using weight-loss jabs (such as Ozempic or Mounjaro) as a tool for weight management.

These medications, originally developed for type 2 diabetes, have become widely used for weight loss, but there’s little research on how people affected by cancer view their use.

The students are particularly interested in understanding participants’ concerns, motivations, and the types of support they feel should be available when considering weight-loss medication.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Siti Aisyah Suhadi

Job title: Master’s student

Organisation: University of Surrey

Who can take part?

You can take part if you:

  • Are aged 18 or older
  • Have a BMI over 30 (classified as living with obesity)
  • Have had a cancer diagnosis at any point in the past
  • Are not currently receiving active cancer treatment (e.g. chemotherapy or radiotherapy), but can be on hormone therapy
  • Have access to Microsoft Teams (via mobile app or online browser) for an online interview

Why do you want me to be involved?

By sharing your views, you’ll help researchers understand how people with experience of cancer feel about using weight-loss injectables.

Your insights will help identify what support might be needed for those considering this option, and shape future guidance for both people diagnosed with cancer and healthcare professionals alike.

What will you ask me to do?

You’ll be invited to take part in a one-off online interview via Microsoft Teams, lasting around an hour. The researcher will ask about your views on weight-loss jabs and weight management more broadly.

The interview is not a test, there are no right or wrong answers and all questions are optional. Some topics may be sensitive, but the conversation will be informal and led by your own experiences and perspectives.

How do I get involved?

You can read more about the study and register your interest online.

Once you’ve shared your contact details, the researcher will get in touch to answer any questions you may have, and arrange a date and time for your interview.

When’s the deadline?

31 August 2025
