Registration FAQs

  • Who can take part?

    Night in the Wild is open to anyone over the age of 18. The event is primarily for people who identify as women, but men can take part too if they're accompanied by a woman.

  • How much is it to take part in Night in the Wild?

    The entry fee to take part in Night in the Wild is £35 per person. 

  • What will I get for my registration fee?

    • A digital event pack with event details, camping guides, sponsorship form and fundraising tips
    • A welcome pack on the day
    • An exclusive beanie hat to wear on the day
    • A shared kit with everything you need to build your own shelter
    • Outdoor experts
    • Campfire experience
    • Guest speaker

  • How much sponsorship do I need to raise?

    Each participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of £250 in sponsorship (in addition to the £35 entry fee).

  • Why is there a £250 minimum sponsorship target?

    We ask for a minimum sponsorship of £250 because we believe it reflects the scale and difficulty of the challenge. And so that we can continue to fund our vital research and support. The £35 registration fee does not meet the entire cost of the challenge, so setting a minimum sponsorship target also makes sure that we can cover the cost of each place in the event. There's no penalty for not reaching the minimum fundraising target, but we do encourage everyone to achieve this goal.

  • When do I have to sign up by?

    Registrations close one week before the event date.

  • I registered for Night in the Wild but I can no longer take part, can someone take my place?

    Please call 020 7960 3584 or email nightinthewild@breastcancernow.org and we can decide what to do with your place.

  • I have a serious medical condition but don't want to miss out. What do you recommend I do?

    Please consult your GP before you completely rule it out. You may be able to support anyone else you know who is going by making a donation via Facebook or JustGiving fundraising page. 

Team FAQs

  • Can I take part as a team?

    Yes, of course! Each team member will need to register individually. You can create a JustGiving page for your team to help with that all important fundraising. Then just give your team a name so that everyone knows who you are!

  • How do I set up a team?

    At time of registration, please click on the ‘Create’ button in the ‘Create a new team and Register’ option. You can then name your team and invite your friends and family to join your team and register for this event by entering their emails.

  • How do I invite friends to join my team?

    Let your friends know your team name and upon registration they can click the ‘Join’ button in the ‘Join a team and Register’ and search for your team name.

    It is important for all your group to join the team so we know in advance to make sure you are all near each other at the campsite.

  • Is the £250 target for each team or each participant?

    Everyone taking part has an individual fundraising target of £250. So if four of you are in the same team, your goal is to raise £1000. For tips on how to fundraise, you can access our downloadable resources here: Night in the Wild downloads

Event details

  • What time does the event start and end?

    You’ll be invited to arrive at the event in the afternoon on Saturday 28 June. We’ll be in touch closer to the time with details of your exact arrival time. And we’re planning for everyone to leave the site by 11am on Sunday 29 June.

  • Can I attend on my own?

    Yes, you can. Setting up your shelter may be a two-person job but there will be lots of support on site.

  • What is the itinerary for the weekend?

    We’ll be in touch closer to the time with details of the challenge itinerary but you can expect:  

    • An optional walk to help you get away from your every day and connect with nature 

    • The chance to build your own shelter 

    • An opportunity to catch up with friends and to meet new and likeminded people 

    • Campfires 

  • What will the terrain be like?

    Crossing undulating farmland, fields and woodland, your walk will take in the glorious views of the High Weald. The route will be fully signed and our team will be on hand to support you as you make your way to site. We expect the walk to take up to 1 hour to complete.

  • Will there be any toilet facilities?

    Yes, there will be toilet facilities at the event.

  • Will there be any amenities on site?

    We want to make sure you get the chance to really spend a night in the wild. We’ll provide toilets and running water, but there won't be showers or any indoor amenities.

  • Will you provide any food or refreshments?

    Once you’ve completed your challenge, we’ll provide you with a warm drink and breakfast. There won’t be any other refreshments at the event, so please bring your own food and drink for the Saturday afternoon and evening.

  • Can I go to a shop to buy food or anything else I need during the challenge?

    Unfortunately, this won’t be possible because we have a full itinerary planned for the weekend. We recommend you pack your kit bag far enough in advance for you to purchase items before you set off to the site. If you are unsure about anything, feel free to reach out at nightinthewild@breastcancernow.org or post your query on the Facebook group. 

  • What food do you recommend I/my team take with me/us?

    The key is to be organised. Do as much preparation as you can at home ahead of time. A flask of soup/tea/coffee would be ideal. You may choose to make sandwiches or bring snacks like crisps or chocolate. You could make some treats like flapjacks, cake or biscuits that are easy to share. If you would rather have a healthier option, you could cut some vegetables into strips e.g. carrots, cucumbers and peppers to munch on throughout the day and evening.  It is important that if you are planning on cooking something at the campsite, it is done safely by using the right equipment like a portable stove. You won’t be able to cook on the campfire.  

  • I know you are providing breakfast on Sunday morning. I have dietary requirements e.g. nut allergy, gluten free, vegan/vegetarian, diabetic etc. Will there be alternatives to meet my needs?

    We’ll ask you about your dietary requirements when you register, so please tell us when you’re completing the form. We will ensure that all participants are catered for. After all – you deserve it after spending a night under the stars!  

  • When will I receive my welcome pack?

    We'll send you a digital welcome pack with everything you need. If you need anything else, please email us at nightinthewild@breastcancernow.org

  • Will there be parking?

    Yes, there will be parking on site, but we recommend travelling with friends and family. There will be some public transport options.

  • How do I get there?

    Our wild camping site for Night in the Wild East Sussex is situated at Great Danegate farm, near the historic spa town of Tunbridge Wells in the beautiful Wealden Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s easiest to reach by road, and free carparking will be provided. We’d encourage you to travel with your Night in the Wild team mates to minimise traffic to the area. 

    To reach the site by public transport, Eridge Station is only a short drive from the venue and provides regular services from London, Brighton and further afield. 

  • What do I need to bring?

    • Sleeping bag 

    • Head torch 

    • Cooking equipment and food 

    • Reusable water bottle 

    • Sleeping mat or pad 

    • Comfortable shoes to walk in

    • Camping chair or picnic blanket to sit on
  • If I forget to pack an essential item, what should I do?

    Ask around the campsite if anyone has anything to spare. It will test your survival skills! If there is a real emergency there will be medical supplies. We’ll have a small shop with limited stock of camping essentials, but please make sure you pack everything you need.

  • Tell me more about building shelters!

    Your shelter pack will consist of: 

    • A technical tarpaulin 

    • Poles 

    • Guy ropes 

    • Pegs 

    • A ground sheet 

    • The tools you’ll need 

    Our team of outdoor adventure experts will be there to support you in getting set up.

  • Can I bring my dog?

    Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted at our Night in the Wild events.

    If you have a guide dog and would like to join a Night in the Wild event, please contact us at nightinthewild@breastcancernow.org, as we want to make this event as accessible as possible for everyone.

  • I use a wheelchair - is the event accessible?

    We want to make the event as accessible as possible for everyone. If you would like to join a Night in the Wild event and you use a wheelchair, please contact us on nightinthewild@breastcancernow.org 

  • What happens if it's raining?

    We’ll have our fingers crossed for dry, sunny weather, but we all know that the Great British Summer doesn’t always play ball! Our team of outdoor experts will be there to support you come rain or shine. So, if it’s a damp day, grab you goloshes and a waterproof – let's embrace the great outdoors together!

  • What happens if there are severe weather conditions?

    Our team are preparing plans that address a range of weather conditions. We’ll keep in touch in the lead up to the event with any key weather updates to support you in preparing for your challenge.  

    In the event of severe weather conditions, we will be in touch about the challenge and your participation. Your safety and wellbeing at the event is our top priority.   

  • Is there first aid?

    Yes, there will be a dedicated and expert first aid team at the event.

  • Will there be an internet connection/WiFi?

    There will be little to no connection during the Night in the Wild Events. You will need to entertain yourselves the old-fashioned way! There will be games and opportunities to share stories with likeminded women. However, we recommend you bring a power bank with you, so your phone doesn’t run out of charge. This will allow you to take photos and film videos you can share with everyone when you regain reception.

  • Can I recycle any empty containers etc at the site or do I need to take them with me to recycle at home?

    All rubbish left at the site will be separated, sorted and recycled where possible.
