A survey exploring the use of AI in cancer decision-making

Complete an online survey to help researchers to explore views on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in supporting decision-making during cancer treatment.

What’s the title of the study?

Evaluating the feasibility of using artificial intelligence-driven tools to support the patient care pathway

What’s the project about?

In the NHS, important cancer treatment decisions are made during Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, where doctors and specialists collaborate to agree the best plan of care for each patient.

In this study, the researchers are exploring whether AI technology can safely and effectively support this process, while still maintaining high standards of care.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Fiona Wu

Job title: Clinical Research Fellow

Organisation: University of Surrey

Email address: fiona.wu@surrey.ac.uk

Who can take part?

You can take part if you:

  • Have been affected by cancer, either through your own diagnosis or as the main caregiver for someone with cancer
  • Are comfortable reading and understanding English

Why do you want me to be involved?

Very few studies have asked patients and caregivers directly about how MDT decisions are made, even though these decisions can strongly affect experiences and outcomes.

In the coming years, AI is likely to play an increasing role in clinical settings. By sharing your views, you can help shape how AI is introduced in NHS cancer care.

Your perspectives will ensure future AI tools reflect what matters most to people affected by breast cancer

What will you ask me to do?

You’ll be asked to complete a one-off, anonymous online survey that takes around 15 minutes. It includes questions about:

  • Your experiences of cancer care and MDT processes
  • Your thoughts on the use of AI in clinical settings
  • The potential benefits and risks of AI in healthcare

At the end of the survey, you will be invited to provide optional free-text responses to share additional comments about any benefits or concerns of using AI in healthcare and MDTs.

You will also have the opportunity to express interest in taking part in a 1-hour follow-up interview, which aims to gain deeper insights into how MDT practices can be improved and how AI could be responsibly integrated into MDT decision making.

How do I get involved?

To take part, complete the online survey. You’ll be asked to read the information sheet and complete the consent form before starting the survey.

If you have any further questions, please contact lead researcher Fiona Wu at fiona.wu@surrey.ac.uk.

When’s the deadline?

30 April 2026
