Complete a survey about support needs for metastatic breast cancer

Complete a survey about what support people living with metastatic breast cancer access and what they need. Your involvement will help researchers develop new tools and resources to help people have a better quality of life.

What’s the title of the study?

SupportMBC

What’s the project about?

Researchers at Sheffield Hallam University are investigating what support people living with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer are accessing. This includes online resources or support from loved ones, community or healthcare professionals.

This is part of a larger project, SupportMBC, which aims to develop tools to support people living with metastatic breast cancer, their care givers and healthcare professionals.

They would like to invite people living with metastatic breast cancer to complete a short survey to help them understand what support you get, from what sources you get support, and what support you feel you need.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Dr Sarah Hardcastle

Job title: Associate Professor in Physical Activity and Health

Organisation: Sheffield Hallam University

Email address: sarah.Hardcastle@shu.ac.uk

Who can take part?

You can take part if you live in the UK and are living with metastatic breast cancer.

Why do you want me to be involved?

By completing the survey, you’ll help researchers understand what support tools and services people living with metastatic breast cancer use.

This will help them understand and address the gaps in what’s available, and allow them to develop new tools to support people living with metastatic breast cancer to have a better quality of life.

What will you ask me to do?

The researchers would like you to complete a short online survey. This should take about 10-15 minutes and is anonymous, unless you choose to leave your contact details.

In the survey, you’ll be asked about

  • The ways that you manage your health
  • Where and how you access information and support services
  • The role you feel lifestyle plays in managing metastatic breast cancer
  • What could help you in your lifestyle management

At the end of the survey, you’ll have a chance to say whether you’d like to take part in an online interview to expand on your answers. If so, you’ll be asked to leave your name and contact details, and a member of the research team will be in touch to arrange an online interview at a time that works for you.

How do I get involved?

Please complete the survey. The participant information sheet and consent forms are at the beginning of the survey.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Dr Sarah Hardcastle at Sarah.Hardcastle@shu.ac.uk.
