Using AI to predict radiotherapy side effects
Category: Personal diagnosis
Category: Personal diagnosis
Help researchers develop an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that predicts the risk of radiotherapy side effects. This will support shared decision-making between the patient and their doctor.
PRE-ACT (Prediction of radiotherapy side effects using explainable AI).
Radiotherapy is a key treatment for breast cancer, but it can cause difficult side effects. In this study, the researchers behind the PRE-ACT project are developing an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to predict individual risks of these side effects, helping patients and doctors make more informed treatment decisions.
To ensure the tool is as effective and patient-centred as possible, the team wants to understand how it could improve breast cancer care, outcomes, and costs in the UK, France, and the Netherlands.
Name of project lead: Bram Ramaekers

You can take part if you have had or currently have breast cancer, including:
And if you are currently living in the United Kingdom, France or the Netherlands.
Your experience and perspective can help shape the future of radiotherapy treatment. By sharing your views, you’ll help ensure this AI tool truly benefits people affected by breast cancer.
By providing your insights, you could help develop more personalised treatment options and better support for decision-making around radiotherapy.
In this study, you will fill in an online survey that should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You don't need to prepare anything before. The researchers are simply looking for you to share your genuine thoughts and experiences of breast cancer care and treatment.
To take part in this study, please complete the online questionnaire.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Bram at Bram.ramaekers@mumc.nl.
