Attend an event about ER+ and metastatic breast cancer research
Attend a research event in Manchester to find out more about a study into ER+ breast cancer, and share what matters to you.
What's the project about?
Scientists at the University of Manchester are working to understand why oestrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer behaves differently to other types of breast cancer as women get older, and in metastatic (secondary) breast cancer.
They hope that understanding this will help to develop better treatments in the future, including improving response to immunotherapies.
They’re holding an in-person lab open day on 15 June at the cancer research centre in Manchester. This is a chance for you to visit the research lab in person, hear about the project, and share what matters most to you.
Who's organising it?
Name of project lead: Frances Turrell
Job title: Lecturer
Organisation: University of Manchester
Email address: frances.turrell@manchester.ac.uk
Who can take part?
You can join if you, or a friend or family member, have a diagnosis of ER+ primary breast cancer, or a diagnosis of metastatic (secondary) breast cancer.
Why do you want me to be involved?
The researchers want to make sure their work is guided by people affected by breast cancer, and what matters to you. By attending the event, you'll help shape the direction of future research. You’ll also have the chance to learn some cutting edge ideas.
What will you ask me to do?
The researchers would like to invite you to their event at the Manchester Cancer Research Centre in the University of Manchester on 15 June 2026. The address is:
Oglesby Cancer Research Building
Wilmslow Road
Manchester
M20 4GJ
The event will include a guided tour of the lab, short presentations from the team on their current and planned research, followed by a relaxed group discussion and Q&A.
The researchers welcome your questions on the science, and want to hear any thoughts on where treatments for ER+ breast cancer should go next.
There's no preparation or detailed scientific knowledge required. Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed and refreshments will be provided.
How do I get involved?
If you have any questions, or would like to register your interest to attend, please email Dr Frances Turrell at frances.turrell@manchester.ac.uk.
When's the deadline?
29 May 2026
