Attend our new breast awareness training

Sign up to attend our new course through our Train the Trainer pilot, available in 4 UK locations, and help raise breast awareness in your local community.

What’s the project about?

Our Train the Trainer programme is a free breast health promotion training course for people working or volunteering in healthcare or community organisations. It gives them knowledge, skills and confidence to promote breast awareness, screening and risk reduction messages in their local communities.

We’re currently piloting this programme, and offering the training across 4 different sites in the UK:

  • Glasgow
  • Lanarkshire
  • Leicester
  • Westminster

The aim is that as people complete the training, they will share this important breast awareness messaging. We hope that this will lead to an increase in people attending screening appointments, and more people going to their GP if they notice changes. We particularly hope that this training will benefit people from underserved groups who may be less likely to regularly check their breasts to attend screening.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Anna Preciado (for England) and Linsey Valiente (for Scotland)

Job title: Public health development managers for train the trainer

Organisation: Breast Cancer Now

Email address: trainthetrainer@breastcancernow.org

Who can take part?

You can take part if you

  • Live in any of the 4 pilot sites (Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Westminster, Leicester)
  • Work or volunteer within a healthcare setting or health promotion type role, or within a community based organisation
  • Would be comfortable talking about and sharing breast awareness, breast screening and risk reduction messaging regularly to different groups of people that you work or volunteer with
  • Are willing to support us with our evaluation of the pilot

The training is open to people who’ve had a diagnosis of breast cancer, as well as people who have not.

Why do you want me to be involved?

We want to empower local communities to be breast aware and to feel confident to take action when they notice changes. And people within the local community are best placed to do just that.

As an expert in your local context, by being part of the programme, you can ensure that breast awareness messaging and behaviour change is promoted in ways that suite the needs of your community.

What will you ask me to do?

We have 2 different options for you to access the training:

  • A 4-hour online workshop via Microsoft Teams hosted by Breast Cancer Now Train the Trainer staff (various dates between now and July 2026)
  • Self-directed eLearning course, available anytime when you want to do the training.

The options are completely free to access, and all trainees will receive a certificate of completion after their workshop or eLearning course is complete. All trainees will also have access to accompanying resources and regular support from the Train the Trainer team as you plan how to share breast awareness messaging in your community.

As part of the programme, we’re able to offer a community engagement grant of up to £1,500 for you to apply for. This is to help you deliver activities to spread the breast awareness messaging in your community.

The only requirements for participation are:

  • Completing some short surveys to help us in our evaluation, before, during and after the course
  • A commitment to sharing the key messages from the training within the communities you support locally and letting us know how you do this

How do I get involved?
