Give feedback on a survey about exercise and lymphoedema after breast cancer

Share your feedback on a survey about exercise and lymphoedema after primary breast cancer to help researchers understand how patients can be supported to be active after breast cancer.

What’s the title of the study?

Physical activity knowledge, preferences and behaviours of people in the United Kingdom at risk of, or living with breast cancer-related lymphoedema: pilot of a cross-sectional web-based survey

What’s the project about?

When people finish breast cancer treatment, their exercise levels can be lower than the recommended amount. If people have lymphoedema as a result of their treatment, they may be less likely to exercise.

In this study, researchers want to understand what can influence how much people living with, or who are at risk of, lymphoedema after breast cancer exercise. They especially want to understand whether information (or lack of) about physical activity during or after treatment affects how much people exercise.

They’ve developed a survey and are looking for feedback about it to ensure that it’s accessible and appropriate for people living beyond breast cancer.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Laura Henry

Job title: PhD student and Physiotherapist

Organisation: Ulster University

Email address: Henry-L30@ulster.ac.uk

Who can take part?

You can take part if you:

  • Have been diagnosed with primary breast cancer (stages 1 to 3)
  • Have had 1 or more armpit lymph nodes removed as part of treatment for breast cancer
  • Have completed all active breast cancer treatment more than 3 months ago (apart from hormone therapy)

And

  • Are over the age of 18 years old
  • Live in the UK
  • Have access to a mobile phone, tablet or computer
  • Can read and respond to questions in the English language

Why do you want me to be involved?

By sharing your feedback, you’ll help researchers ensure that the survey is accessible and relevant for people living beyond breast cancer.

The study will help researchers understand the impact breast cancer-related lymphoedema has on physical activity behaviour. And they hope it will help shape recommendations for physical activity to support people at risk of, or living with, lymphoedema to be active.

What will you ask me to do?

The researchers would like you to test the online survey and give feedback on it.

The survey is the questionnaire that will go out to study participants. It’ll ask you questions about you, your breast cancer treatment, any lymphoedema symptoms, your physical activity behaviours, physical activity preferences and any physical activity information you may have received.

They’d then like you to complete a feedback survey to tell them how you found the survey. It’ll ask you about how long it took to complete the survey, whether the questions were appropriate or easy to complete.

The survey and your feedback are anonymous.

How do I get involved?

If you’d like to give your feedback, please complete the online survey

Then, follow the separate link to the survey feedback form. It may be helpful to look at the pilot feedback form before completing the online survey so you have an idea of the questions that are requiring feedback.

If you have any questions, or would like a paper copy, please contact Laura at Henry-L30@ulster.ac.uk

When’s the deadline?

23 February 2026

Please note this survey is a test survey and may close earlier should there be enough responses at this time.

However all interest is very welcome and there will be an opportunity to complete this survey again in the near future.

Get involved

Complete the survey and share your feedback with researchers to help them ensure that their study is relevant and beneficial for people living beyond breast cancer.
