Apply to join the Richmond Group of charities' new Lived Experience Network and influence their work to support people with long term conditions to have access to physical activity that works for them.
What’s the project about?
The Richmond Group of Charities’ physical activity programme works with charities in England to support people living with long term conditions to be active.
They’re recruiting to their newly formed Lived Experience Network. This network will be made up of people living with one or more long term condition who will share their insights and experiences to inform and shape with work.
Network members will work alongside the physical activity staff team, other organisations they work with, and decision-makers to ensure that access to and engagement in physical activity is inclusive, accessible, and truly person-centred.
Who’s organising it?
Name of project lead: Emily Martin-Ball
Job title: Programme Officer
Organisation: Richmond Group of Charities
Email address: emily.martinball@ageuk.org.uk
Phone number: 020 3033 0526
Who can take part?
The network is open to anyone living in England with one or more long-term health conditions. This includes people living with breast cancer, or with side effects from treatments.
You don’t need to have any experience of advocacy or of being in involvement networks. You just need your voice and willingness to be involved in supporting people to be active.
You don’t need to have a certain level of activity to be involved. The organisers are keen to include people who have lower levels of activity, or who’ve had to change how they’re active due to their condition.
Why do you want me to be involved?
By getting involved, you can help the Richmond Group ensure that a diverse range of conditions and experiences are represented on their panel. This will mean that their work can benefit as many people as possible.
What will you ask me to do?
You can read more about the role in the recruitment pack.
As a network member, you’ll be invited to join different opportunities based on your experience and interests. These might include:
- Joining quarterly panel meetings to discuss the Richmond Group’s projects, campaigns and policies.
- Joining focus groups on specific topics to shape policy work or inform projects
- Speaking at events
- Reviewing or improving written materials or surveys
The team will support you in all opportunities by making sure you’re fully prepared for any role, meeting or project and giving you the support you need to be fully involved.
Payment may be offered for some of the opportunities. This could affect your benefits of tax. If you’re concerned about this, you can speak to your local Benefits Advisor, Citizens Advice Bureau or see the information on the Gov.uk website.
How do I get involved?
Please read through the recruitment pack for full details of the network and the role.
If you’d like to get involved, you can apply to join through the online sign up form.
If you have any issues, questions or would like to do the application form over the phone, you can contact Emily at emily.martinball@ageuk.org.uk or phone her on 020 3033 0526 (during the week-day hours of 9am – 5pm).
The team will read and shortlist the applications. They’ll be in touch at the beginning of December with people they’ve shortlisted to set up an informal online call to find out more about you and to answer any questions you have.
When’s the deadline?
12 December 2025
