Join an event with Breast Cancer Now healthcare professionals to talk about your experience of being on the high risk screening programme and help healthcare professionals understand the patient experience and improve their practice.
What’s the project about?
Our breast screening special interest group is hosted by Breast Cancer Now and is made up of healthcare professionals who work in breast screening. The group meets every 3 months to hear about different areas of breast screening and share best practice.
The next meeting is on Thursday 23 April from 1 to 2pm and is about the high risk screening programme. We have Dr Eddie Gibson (Consultant Lead radiologist) from Northern Ireland, talking about high risk screening in the region, and we’d like to invite a Voice who has lived experience of being on the very high risk breast screening programme to share their experience.
Who’s organising it?
Name of project lead: Elli Strange
Job title: Clinical Nurse Specialist Breast Screening & Breast Awareness
Organisation: Breast Cancer Now
Email address: elli.strange@breastcancernow.org
Who can take part?
We’d love to hear from you if you have experience of being on the very high risk screening programme in the UK. We’d especially like to hear from someone who got diagnosed through this programme, however that isn’t essential.
Why do you want me to be involved?
By sharing your experience, you’ll help the healthcare professionals at the meeting and across the UK to gain insight into how being assessed as high risk can impact someone, and how they can better support their patients.
What will you ask me to do?
We would like you to join our meeting on 23 April to informally talk to the group about your experience of being on the high risk screening programme. We want to hear about what went well, what could have been improved, and how it’s affected your day to day life or relationships.
We’re flexible in how long you’d like to talk for – anything from 20 to 40 minutes, and there will be time for the group to ask questions afterwards.
The meeting will take place virtually, over Microsoft Teams, and will run from 12 to 2pm. Your slot would be from around 1pm, so you wouldn’t have to join at the beginning of the meeting if you didn’t want to.
How do I get involved?
If you’re interested in getting involved, or have any questions, please contact Elli at ellie.strange@breastcancernow.org. You can also email Abby Batchelor, who’ll be supporting the meeting at abigail.batchelor@breastcancernow.org.
When’s the deadline?
20 March 2026
