Share your views about treatment breaks for metastatic breast cancer

Complete an online survey and help the researchers understand how people living with metastatic breast cancer, feel about treatment breaks.

What’s the project about?

For patients living with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer, treatment aims to increase the length of life while also reducing symptoms from the cancer and drug side effects.

Treatment is usually given in continuous cycles, but some research suggests that it might be beneficial to introduce breaks in treatment to help cancer cells to regain their sensitivity to the drug being used.

A treatment break might also help manage side effects and reduce the number of visits to the hospital for people living with metastatic breast cancer.

Researchers want to understand how people living with metastatic breast cancer feel about treatment breaks, to inform the design of a clinical trial to see whether this could be beneficial. They’d like you to complete a survey to share your views.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Zoe Kemp

Job title: Consultant in Breast Medical Oncology and Cancer Genetics

Organisation: The Royal Marsden

Email address: zoe.kemp@rmh.nhs.uk

Phone number: 02031 865 282

Who can take part?

You can take part if you’re living with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer.

Why do you want me to be involved?

By sharing your views, you can help the researchers understand what the perspectives and priorities of people living with metastatic breast cancer are. This will help them design a trial that will be relevant to and hopefully benefit people living with the disease.

What will you ask me to do?

The researchers would like you to complete a short, online survey. In the survey, you’ll be asked about how you’d feel about having treatment breaks, whether having regular monitoring would reassure you, and whether having time away from the hospital would benefit you.

If you’d like to stay updated on the project and have the opportunity to be involved further, you can sign up via the ‘stay informed’ box on the right of the webpage

How do I get involved?

Please complete the survey. If you’d prefer to complete the survey over the phone, you can do so by calling 02031 865 282.

If you have any questions, you can contact Zoe at zoe.kemp@rmh.nhs.uk

When’s the deadline?

13 March 2026
