What you can expect
This session will help you develop a better understanding of what radiotherapy is, when and how it is given, and its possible side effects.
About Jo McNamara
Jo and Naman are co-founders and hosts of the multi award winning podcast Rad Chat.
Jo McNamara works at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) as a senior lecturer, teaching across all health and social care courses, primarily therapeutic radiography students. In addition, she’s also an accomplished researcher and has had over 40 publications, with a primary focus on workforce development, patient care and healthcare education.
Jo spent a year on secondment with Macmillan as their first national therapeutic radiographer clinical fellow, where she sat on the chief medical officers’ Team, as one of the first AHPs to raise the profile of radiotherapy and therapeutic radiographers within Macmillan. During her time there, Jo helped develop educational tools on prehabilitation, rehabilitation and personalised care and covid resources for staff and people living with and beyond cancer.
Jo is radiotherapy chair for the UK Acute Oncology Society, she co-chairs the Outreach and Promotion Special Interest Group with the Society of Radiographers, is the Yorkshire regional lead for 5K Your Way with Move More, and is a Personalised Care Institute Ambassador and a Radiotherapy UK Ambassador.
About Naman Julka
Naman, qualified as a therapeutic radiographer in 2017 and now works at an advanced practice level setting up a new head and neck late effects service at Southend Hospital. He is also an allied health professional clinical advisor for Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.
In 2024 he was the first therapeutic radiographer in history to win the Chief Allied Health Professions Officer Awards (CAHPO) leadership for EDI and overall AHP of the year, along with the joint first therapeutic radiographer in history to win the CAHPO Awards 2025 gold award for the excellence.
