Participate in a study exploring the experiences and support needs of Black and South Asian women living with metastatic breast cancer.

What’s the title of the study?

Exploring the Experiences of Black and South Asian Women Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer

What’s the study about?

Living with metastatic breast cancer brings ongoing challenges. The physical impact. The emotional strain. The uncertainty that doesn’t go away.

But not everyone’s experience is the same. And too often, the voices of Black and South Asian women are underrepresented in research.

This study wants to change that. It’s focused on understanding what it’s really like to live with metastatic breast cancer if you’re from a Black or South Asian background. The challenges you face. The support you need. And what’s missing.

By listening to these experiences, the research aims to improve care and shape more culturally sensitive support for women affected by metastatic breast cancer.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Summayah Zafar

Job title: Trainee Health Psychologist

Organisation: The University of the West of England

Email address: summayah2.zafar@live.uwe.ac.uk

Who can take part?

You can take part if you:

  • Are a Black or South Asian woman
  • Are aged 18 or over
  • Live in the UK
  • Have been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer

Why do you want me to be involved?

Women from Black and South Asian backgrounds are often underrepresented in breast cancer research. By taking part, you can help change that.

By sharing your experiences, you can highlight gaps in care, barriers to support, and what needs to improve. And that can help shape services that work better for others living with metastatic breast cancer.

What will you ask me to do?

If you choose to take part, you’ll be asked to:

  • Complete a short questionnaire about your background and cancer journey
  • Take part in a one-to-one interview lasting around 45 to 60 minutes

The interview can take place online via Microsoft Teams, by phone or face-to-face in the Bristol area at a time that suits you. You’re welcome to skip any questions you don’t want to answer and you can withdraw from the study within 30 days of your interview.

As a thank you for taking part, you can choose to enter a prize draw to win one of three £10 shopping vouchers

How do I get involved?
