Complete on online survey exploring how food access and nutrition knowledge in Scotland shape eating habits after a cancer diagnosis.

What’s the title of the study?

Investigating Food Access, Eating Habits and Nutrition Knowledge amongst Individuals Diagnosed with Cancer

What’s the project about?

What you eat matters. But it’s not just about choice. It’s about access, knowledge and what’s realistically available to you. This study looks at how these factors come together for people affected by cancer.

The researchers want to understand how this shapes the meals people eat. And how it differs depending on life circumstances, including income and where people live.

By building a clearer picture, the study aims to highlight inequalities and support changes that improve care and outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer in Scotland.

Who’s organising it?

Name of project lead: Mia Binnie

Job title: Masters student

Organisation: University of Stirling

Email address: mib00125@students.stir.ac.uk

Who can take part?

You can take part if you:

  • Are aged 18 or over
  • Live in Scotland
  • Have been diagnosed with any type of cancer (currently or in the past)
  • Have access to the internet and a device to complete the survey

Why do you want me to be involved?

Not everyone has the same access to healthy food or the same information about nutrition. And that can affect health outcomes.

By taking part, you’ll help show how these differences play out in real life. Your experience can help researchers understand where the gaps are and identify what needs to change.

The findings could help shape future support and influence decisions aimed at improving cancer experiences across Scotland.

What will you ask me to do?

If you choose to take part you’ll be asked to complete a one-off online questionnaire, which takes around 20 minutes.

The survey includes questions about:

  • Your eating habits
  • Your understanding of nutrition
  • Your access to food

All questions are multiple choice.

How do I get involved?

To take part, please complete the online questionnaire. The participant information sheet and consent form are at the beginning of the questionnaire.

If you have any questions or would like more information, you can contact Mia at mib00125@students.stir.ac.uk.

When’s the deadline?

6 July 2026
