Losing my mum changed my life forever
I lost my mum the day after my 18th birthday from breast cancer. This is a moment that changed my life forever.
I managed to make it to university and joined the netball society. Here, I’ve been supported by the girls around me. I’ve used my role as netball club captain to highlight the importance of Breast Cancer Now.
Our club chose to take part in Wear It Pink as a meaningful way to support a cause that’s close to many of our hearts. As a predominately female member club, we believe it’s essential to create a safe, supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable discussing important health issues.
Many of our netball society members have had family or friends affected by breast cancer
This makes it especially important for us to raise awareness and encourage open conversations about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Early recognition can be live-saving, and by coming together for this event, our aim was to promote that message. Through this event, we not only honoured those impacted but also strengthened our commitment to supporting one another and raising awareness within our community.
Our Wear It Pink event
For our event, it started with us all arriving in pink! We had a talk led by one of our club members who is a medical student. They talked us through the signs and symptoms and the process of checking our breasts. We also used some of the Wear It Pink resources at our event.
We then went into some fun drills followed by netball match play. We finished it with QR codes for donations on entry and exit to training. We had a great turn out!

I would encourage everyone to take part – the sign up is easy! As a club we enjoyed running the event and hope to do the same next year.
