We respond to NICE decision to approve Enhertu for routine use on the NHS for people with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer

Rachael Franklin, deputy chief executive at Breast Cancer Now, said:

“We’re thrilled that today NICE has confirmed continued access to Enhertu for people with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer on the NHS in England. This news comes just two weeks after the landmark announcement that the drug would be made available to people with HER2-low metastatic breast cancer.

“This is a huge relief for hundreds of people who will now be eligible for this treatment. Having been accessible through the Cancer Drugs Fund since 2022, NICE’s decision means Enhertu will now be available permanently on the NHS in England, giving people the reassurance of knowing that this vital, life-extending treatment will be there when they need it.

“Access to this treatment gives people the opportunity to have an average of 10 extra months of precious time with their loved ones. For mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives this means more time to be there for the moments that mean so much, and to make memories that will last a lifetime. That’s what decisions like today mean for people living with incurable metastatic breast cancer.

“Today’s outcome is another great step forward, but we’re not stopping here. Breast Cancer Now is determined to keep pushing for quick and equal access to vital treatments for every person living with metastatic breast cancer, and we won’t stop until we reach our ambition that everyone with breast cancer lives and lives well.”
