After finding a lump just before her 40th birthday, Helen Addis was diagnosed with breast cancer. This inspired her to throw herself into all sorts of campaigns, ultimately being awarded an MBE.
Until there’s a cure, I don’t think I could stop waving the flag for it and doing what I can.
Helen joins Laura to talk about how breast cancer radically changed her life, including parenting three young children during treatment and spearheading the Change + Check national awareness campaign.
They discuss Helen's passion for breast awareness as well as her campaigning for access to the drug Enhertu, and reflect on how the friends she's lost within the breast cancer community have made her even more determined to campaign for change.
Helen also shares how it felt when she found she'd been awarded an MBE, completely out of the blue. Helen discusses her personal experience of taking fezolinetant, also known as Veoza, for hot flushes. (This medicine may not be suitable for everyone who has had breast cancer. Speak to your oncology team before starting or stopping any treatment.)
