Calling all Breast Cancer Now home heroes!
On Sunday 26 April, become a Breast Cancer Now home hero and join the rest of the nation for one of the biggest fundraising days of the year by taking on The 2.6 Challenge.
The 2.6 Challenge is a new fundraising initiative set up in the face of the coronavirus crisis to help save UK charities – and we need you to be part of our team. Because people affected by breast cancer need us more than ever. We desperately need your help to continue our world-class research and life-changing care and support services.
By joining in The 2.6 Challenge for Breast Cancer Now, you can raise money so we can be here for anyone affected by breast cancer, now and in the future.
How can I join in?
Taking part is easy. On 26 April, join people around the nation in taking on a challenge that involves the number 2.6 or 26. Do it from the safety of your own home or immediate local area and get sponsored for doing it.
Sunday 26 April should have been the day of the London Marathon, the biggest one-day fundraising event in the world. Last year, it raised nearly £67 million for charities and The 2.6 Challenge wants to do the same this April. That’s the equivalent of 2.6 million incredible people raising £26 (but why stop at £26 - we know we can all smash that).
The 2.6 Challenge encourages people to get active, but absolutely anything counts – big or small, sporty or not. You could:
- Walk or run 2.6 miles
- Hop, skip, jump or juggle for 26 minutes
- Do 26 minutes of yoga
- Do a treasure hunt for 26 items in 26 minutes with your kids
- Host a virtual quiz with 26 teams
The most important things are that you have fun, raise as much as you can for Breast Cancer Now and stick within the government’s guidelines on exercising once a day, social distancing, shielding and not meeting with people outside of your household (we can’t stress this enough).
So, go on, be a Breast Cancer Now home hero. Start planning your 2.6 inspired challenge today and set up your JustGiving page by registering now.
We’ve never needed your support more
We, like many other charities, are facing huge challenges. Not only to our income but to our ability to deliver support and progress for people affected by breast cancer.
An estimated 600,000 people are living with and beyond breast cancer in the UK, and every 10 minutes someone else is diagnosed with the disease. And right now, some people are seeing their initial breast cancer surgery be delayed, while others are seeing chemotherapy appointments changed or radiotherapy courses shortened.
At the same time, we’ve seen a surge in people affected by breast cancer turning to us for answers. We know they need our life-changing care and information to give them support for today and our world-class research to give them hope for the future.
That’s where you come in. We’re already expecting to see a 25% drop in our fundraising income this year and we need your support now more than ever.
So, whether you plan to run around the balcony for 2.6 miles, do 26 press-ups with the dog on your back or something totally different, you can raise money so we can be here for anyone affected by breast cancer, now and in the future.
