Services promotion volunteer

Help ensure people with secondary breast cancer are aware of the support available to them locally.

As a services promotion volunteer, you'll ensure people with secondary breast cancer are aware of the support available to them locally.

You don’t need any previous knowledge of breast cancer or to have had a diagnosis to be a services promotion volunteer.

What will I be doing as a services promotion volunteer?

As a services promotion volunteer, you'll help to promote local support services available for people living with secondary breast cancer.

Our Living with Secondary Breast Cancer groups offer support and information to anyone living with a diagnosis of secondary (metastatic) breast cancer in the UK. The groups offer a safe space where people can talk freely and share experiences and support with others who understand.

By volunteering 4 to 8 hours a month, you'll distribute posters and leaflets to promote the Living with Secondary Breast Cancer group in community spaces like GPs, pharmacies, and libraries.

You'll revisit the locations monthly to keep resources updated and replace them as needed. We'll make sure you have access to all the resources you need.

What skills and qualities do I need?

  • Willingness to travel around your community (by car or public transport, expenses covered)
  • Able to work on your own initiative
  • Confident using the internet, email and phone (or a willingness to learn)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to work within Breast Cancer Now’s policies and guidelines

What support and training will I receive?

You'll attend a 2 hour online welcome workshop introducing you to the charity. You'll receive training specific to the role and have a key contact in the secondary breast cancer services team, who will support you in the role.

Breast Cancer Now will reimburse reasonable expenses in line with our expenses policy.

What will I gain from this role?

You'll gain:

  • The knowledge that you're helping people living with secondary breast cancer to access support local to them
  • Experience of volunteering in a marketing or promotional role
  • The opportunity to meet and connect with volunteers and Breast Cancer Now staff

What's the time commitment?

We'd like you to volunteer for 3 to 6 months, giving 4 to 8 hours of time each month.
