Complete an online survey exploring body image experiences of young adults living with or beyond cancer to help design a new wellbeing programme.
What’s the title of the study?
Strategies to help body image concerns amongst young adults (18–39 years) living with and beyond cancer
What’s the project about?
This study is exploring how a cancer diagnosis affects body image for young adults aged 18 to 39.
The researchers aim to co-design a new wellbeing programme that brings together physical activity, self-compassion and social support to help improve body image after cancer.
By learning about people’s experiences and the support they received or wanted during and after treatment, the researchers hope to develop a programme that feels relevant, supportive and genuinely helpful.
Who’s organising it?
Name of project lead: Sairah Bi
Job title: PhD researcher
Organisation: University of Surrey
Email address: sb01908@surrey.ac.uk
Who can take part?
You can take part if you are aged 18 to 39 and have had any cancer diagnosis.
The study is open to people at all stages of the treatment pathway.
Why do you want me to be involved?
Your experiences and ideas can directly shape a new wellbeing programme designed for young adults living with or beyond cancer.
By taking part, you’ll help ensure the support created reflects the real challenges people face around body image after cancer. And that it contributes to improving services and resources for others in the future.
What will you ask me to do?
You’ll be asked to complete a brief online questionnaire.
It includes:
- Basic demographic questions and about your cancer diagnosis and treatment
- Questions about your body image experiences
- Questions about the support you received or would have liked during and after cancer treatment
How do I get involved?
Please complete the online questionnaire. You'll be asked to read the participant information sheet and complete the consent form before starting.
If you need alternative arrangements (for example, support completing the questionnaire), you can contact Sairah at sb01908@surrey.ac.uk.
When’s the deadline?
1 December 2026
