Understanding support needs for breast cancer
Complete a survey about what support is needed by people affected by breast cancer to help them live well, and help healthcare teams provide holistic support.
What’s the project about?
Breast cancer can affect every area of someone’s life. And people living with or beyond breast cancer need support beyond clinical advice to help them live well.
Healthcare professionals want to understand the gaps in support and advice that exist for people affected by breast cancer. Especially in non-clinical areas such as lifestyle and wellbeing.
They’d like to hear what support you feel is important, or missing, for people affected by breast cancer.
Who’s organising it?
Name of project lead: Ms. Shweta Aggarwal
Job title: Consultant Breast Surgeon
Organisation: Barts Health NHS Trust
Email address: michael.faheem@nhs.net
Who can take part?
Anyone affected by breast cancer is welcome to take part, including people who:
- Have been diagnosed with primary breast cancer at any time
- Are living with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer
- Have supported or are supporting a family member or friend with breast cancer
There are no restrictions on age, gender, or location.
Why do you want me to be involved?
By sharing your experience, you help the team build a clearer picture of what people affected by breast cancer actually need beyond the clinic.
This will directly shape how healthcare professionals support future patients around physical activity, mental health, and managing treatment side effects.
What will you ask me to do?
The team would like you to complete a short, anonymous online survey.
The questions will cover
- Your experience of breast cancer
- The hardest non-medical challenges you’ve faced (e.g. fatigue, anxiety, exercise, diet)
- Whether you’ve received guidance on exercise, diet or supplements from your clinical team
- How supported you’ve felt between clinic appointments
- What tools or information have or would have made the biggest difference
How do I get involved?
Please complete the online survey. If you have any questions, or would rather complete the survey over the phone, please email the team at michael.faheem@nhs.net.
When’s the deadline?
30 September 2026
