Your impact: February - April 2025

Read our latest quarterly roundup of feedback from researchers and project leads about the impact that you're having in breast cancer research and support across the UK.

Helena Lewis-Smith, Body image research

University of the West of England

"Breast Cancer Voices are fantastic to partner up with! We had many women come forward who felt the research was important (supporting women with body image concerns following treatment). It helped us reach our recruitment target, and we are still collecting data. Thank you so much!"

Rachel Baxter, Updating our Talking to Children about Breast Cancer booklet

Breast Cancer Now

"Breast Cancer Voices are always enthusiastic to get involved and provide useful insight and real-world experience, which improves our work. Their contribution will make our information booklet more relatable and helpful to people needing to talk with children in their family or community about their breast cancer."

Rhianna Parsons, Patient advisory board

University of Birmingham Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit

"We have been overwhelmed by the applications to join our patient advisory board, not only in number but also in the calibre of the applicants.  They all offered skills and experience that would be an asset to the patient advisory board and we feel very fortunate to have connected with Voices."

“Involving Voices throughout every stage of the Big Breast Cancer Survey has been invaluable. They provided valuable feedback and challenge where needed, and were also able to check the findings and provide valuable feedback on report drafts. Their involvement has led to a stronger, more robust piece of research that will inform our new strategy and support teams in their work”

Emma Banks, Asda Community Champion Conference

Breast Cancer Now

"The Voice who joined us was an incredible speaker at the Asda Community Champion conference. She bravely shared her experience of breast cancer and explained how the Moving Forward course had been beneficial in helping her get back to normal after her diagnosis. We had feedback from the conference that employees were a lot more engaged with the charity because it showed how their fundraising is making a huge difference. Thank you."

Anna Cartwright, Online resource for fears about recurrence

King's College London

"We are really grateful to the Voices community for taking part in this study and contributing to this important research into fear of cancer recurrence. We were blown away by the number of people who got in touch about taking part in the study! The process of connecting with the Breast Cancer Voices was quick, easy and extremely valuable."

External researcher

"The panel members have been very instrumental in developing our leaflets and information for patients. Having the views of women with lived experience highlights things that are important for them to know and understand."

It was great to have Voices involved through the focus groups. They gave us good insight into some key barriers women with breast cancer face when returning to physical activity. It enabled Her Spirit to go back and make changes to how the programme is run. Some of the work has also enabled us to report some future recommendations for the pilot and the wider health and leisure sector to consider when working with women with breast cancer.

Carmine Petrasso, Changes in walking for people with advanced cancer

King's College London

"Working in collaboration with Voices was positive and provided the team the opportunity to interview a member from Voices who shared their experiences of living with cancer. Overall, it was a very positive experience that enriched our research."

Kinie Kaur, Wear it Pink photoshoot

Breast Cancer Now

"It's great to involve Voices who've had a personal experience of breast cancer. It's so important for us to highlight real stories of breast cancer diagnoses and how this has affected individuals throughout the Wear it Pink campaign."
