Standards of care for older adults with breast cancer
Cassie Kingswell, Breast Cancer Now
"The Voices added so much value to our project. Our aim was to ensure our standards reflected what is important for those experiencing cancer care as an older adult. The input from Voices has helped us correct assumptions and alter language to make them more relatable."
Humanising healthcare
Chris Threapleton, City St. George's
"We were very lucky to have one of the Voices speak to our students. She gave a fascinating account of her experience, which gave a lot of flavour to our other teaching on the science of cancer. This session speaking to the Voice about her experience with breast cancer was enlightening and gave real human element to our teaching. The students really enjoyed the session and found it very interesting. Thank you."
Bone Metastasis Collaboration Patient Panel
Prostate Cancer Research
"Breast Cancer Now and Prostate Cancer Research joined forces to fund up to £600,000 of new research under their newly created Bone Metastasis Collaboration Fund grant call.
"We recruited 9 Voices to join our patient panel to assess the research applications and decide which ones to fund. It was fantastic to see both the prostate and breast cancer communities come together to support the charities and help ensure the projects we fund truly meet the needs of those who matter most. We really appreciate your time, insight, and collaboration."
Artificial Intelligence in Breast Cancer screening
Katie Lean, Health Innovation Oxford
"Breast Cancer Voices introduced us to a remarkable group of women with lived experience of either patient or carer. These women have supported our work through a patient panel and designed leaflets and posters for the study. They also have given valuable insight around case studies and fed back to the company the importance of AI learning, including diversity. Every panel we held, we learnt new insights from the panel and fed back to the research investigators and company."
Chat group pilot
Lotte Adams, Breast Cancer Now
"It was important to have enough participants in the pilot to demonstrate its value. At the start of the launch of the service, it was very helpful to have Voices participate - they were crucial to ensure we had enough participants to pilot our chat group service."
Using AI to help patients complete health questionnaires
Mengxuan Sun, University of Aberdeen
"Working with Breast Cancer Voices has been an exceptional experience. Their members offer honest, insightful, and constructive feedback that truly strengthens a project’s design and relevance. I would strongly encourage other project leads to collaborate with them."
